Amanwasdrivingat70milesina40-mile-zone,whenapolicecarcamebehindhimwiththeflasherson.Ashepulledoverandstopped,hecouldseeapolicemangettingoutofhiscar.Rightawaythemanstartedthinkingofexcusestogive,asthiswasnotthefirsttime,hehadbeeninsimilarsituationsmanytimesbefore.
Asthepolicemancametohim,hesaid,“Hi,officer,Iguessyoucaughtmealittlebitoverthelimit.Iwasinarushtogethome,tobewithmywifeandkids,youknowmyyoungersonwasn’tfeelingtoowell,whenIlefthomethismorning.”
Thepolicemansaid,“Well,Iguessso,”andstartedscribblinginhisnotebook.Asminuteswentby,hecouldseefromthesideviewmirror,thepolicemanwasstillscribbling.Themanwaswonderingwhyhehadn’taskedforhisdriver’slicensesofar.Afewmomentslater,thepolicemancametohiswindowandhandedhimafoldedpaper,andreturnedbacktohiscarwithoutsayingasingleword.Themanstartedtowonder,howmuchthisticketisgoingtobeashebegantounfoldthepaper.Hewassurpriseditwasnotaticketashebegantoread:
“Ihadadaughterwhowaskilledbyaspeedingcarattheageofsix,byaspeedingdriverlikeyou.Hegotafine,afewmonthsinprison,andwasfree,freetohughistwootherdaughters.Ionlyhadone,andnowIhavetowaituntilIgettoheavenbeforeIcanhugheragain.Ihavetriedtoforgivethatmanathousandtimes,andIthoughtIhad.MaybeIreallydidforgivehim,butIhavetodoitagain,evenrightnow.Soprayforme,andbecarefulwhenyoudriveagain,mysonisallIhaveleft.”
Themanwascompletelydumbfoundedandcouldnotmoveforthenextfewminutes.Whenfinallyhedid,hedroveslowly,evenafewmilesunderthespeedlimit,prayingforforgiveness.
