Ascanbeseenfromthechart,in1990,theuseofcomputerswasnotpopularyet,withtheuniversitystudentspendingmerelyanaverageofonehouronthecomputerperweek.However,in1995,thenumberofhourswasquadrupled,climbinguptofourhoursperweek.In2000,afteralapseofonlyfiveyears,itwasastonishingtofindthatthenumbershotuptonineteenhourseveryweek.
Thisdramaticchangeintheaveragenumberofhoursthestudentspentonthecomputerperweektookplacechieflyforthreereasons.Inthefirstplace,asthesocietydeveloped,nationaleconomybecameprosperous,bringingaboutthepopularityofcomputers.Inthesecondplace,theuseofcomputerswentfarbeyondtypingwords,makingthemindispensablenotonlytosecretariesbutalsotopeopleengagedinotherareas.Lastbutnotleast,pricesforcomputerswerereduced,somuchsothatcommonpeoplewithamodestincomecouldaffordthem.
Itistruethatstudentshavebenefitedfromspendingmoreandmoretimeonthecomputer,butproblemshavealsoarisen.Somestudentsindulgethemselvesincomputergames,refusingtoconcentrateontheirstudies,whilemanyotherstudents’healthhasbeendamagedasaresultoftoomuchexposuretocomputers.
