AndrewStiehm,asleepmedicineexpertwithAllinaHealthinMinnesota,agrees.It’spossibleforthepartofthebrainthatcontrolsmotorskills(动作技能)towakeup,whilethepartofthebrainthatcontrolsmemoryandjudgment(判断)maybestillasleep.That’swhysomepeoplecanperformbasicmovements---suchaswalking,talking,textingorevendriving—whilethey’resleeping.SomeofDowdell’sstudentssaidthatthey’redisturbedbytheirnighttimetextingbehavior.Butbecausesleeptextingisunconscious,it’sadifficulthabittobreak.Dowdellsaidsheknowsofsomestudentswhowearsocksontheirhandstokeepthemselvesfromtexting.
